Cathedrals

I reject the notion that the Coca Cola sign is the most appropriate icon of western civilization.  MacDonalds’ golden arches?  No!  The Mercedes hood ornament?  No!
Cathedral?  Yes.

The history of a cathedral may not be pretty.  It is invariably about much more than religion.  It is about people... then and now.  Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was begun in 1248 and wasn’t finished until six centuries later, but Christians had already been meeting in private dwelling houses in Roman Cologne for close to a thousand years.  Long before it was finished, Cologne Cathedral was known as the master cathedral for all of Germany.

A cathedral represents striving for perfection... for getting it right... for saying, “Yes, I can.”
