REMINDER: See a slightly larger version of any image by clicking on it.This afternoon we sailed into the small town of Bronnoysund, the midway point on the long coast of Norway, and we were there just long enough for a short walk. The following pictures were added later in the day. The highlight of this afternoon's voyage was the spectacular mountain with a hole through it, a hole caused by glacial action. Of course, the mythical explanation is that some long ago warrior shot his arrow through the mountain.

One of the confusing things about a blog of this kind is that the top, or first pictures and text, happened later than the parts of the blog found at the end of the post. Someday I may try to redesign the format to avoid the confusion.

At 9:15 this morning WE CROSSED THE ARCTIC CIRCLE heading back down toward more temperate weather. Weather has been surprisingly good. Norwegians say we have been very lucky. Going up we had sunshine every day with partly cloudy skies some of the time, which made photography good. Coming back down we have had a bit of rain, but today the skies are overcast, but so far there is no rain. The sun will set tonight, but not until eleven o’clock; and it won’t be far enough below the horizon to give us deep darkness. The novelty of round-the-clock daylight wears off after a couple of days. I admit that I need darkness. I rest better in darkness. I dream in darkness. There is little sense of mystery in bright daylight. However, I can well imagine that I would grow tired of round-the-clock darkness.
