THE CROW The crow scolds and floats down settles easily unafraid of the cat or any other thing even cars
and I wonder how it knows and of course it does that I am in awe not knowing where it goes when the sun goes where it goes.

Jerral i think you have a fine photo of what is actually the Common Raven. It's very hard to tell the difference between the Common Raven and American Crow but, to me, this photo makes the difference noticeable-the biggest difference between the two birds is the bill and throat. the crow has a much smaller, pointy bill (also it's a smaller bird). The Raven has a heavy long bill with a huge "Roman Nose" and this fella has a fine one-he clearly is a ruler. Also abt a third of the way down the bill the Raven has little feathers (changing the texture/shading of the bill). In your photo one can see this change because the soft tufting actually looks darker. The Raven also has shorter shaggy throat/neck feathers that can be sleeked down or more elevated and in the case of the latter it will look more dull in tone/ a little less ''shiney" as with "Ceasar" here. Crows look a lot more shiney overall. The other give away with a Raven is it's tail. It's got the long wedge shape side tail while the crow has all "fan" tail.
"Caesar's " flight pattern is more complex than the crow too. He can do strong straight flight but can rise in cricles, alternating with deep wing beats and long glides... soar much like a hawk while the crow's a "straight.direct" flier. Generally they live in small groups or pairs but the season and terrain will cause them to make loosely formed foraging colonies (I've seen them down by the river banks in large colony formation flying in their hawk like way, yet not bumping into each other!) as well as nightly communal roosts (we seem to have that going on up on our hill for part of the yr) but yet are still monogamous for life.
