BIG DAY IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD: The rock and Roll Marathon rolled by on Friars Road at the bottom of our hill in the early morning; then later in the day a big pool party for the "City Scene" community kept our hill rocking for the rest of the day.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society...

When all is said and done, when the good stuff that Americans do is put up alongside the stuff reported in newspapers about the sordid affairs and ulterior motives of politicians whom we had trusted to be honorable, athletes we had trusted to perform amazing physical feats with just the strength they had developed with natural talent and sheer grit, and the self-serving machinations of bankers to whom we had entrusted the American economic dream... when we step back and take a look at our nation and the people who are its citizens, we’re pretty wonderful. Early this morning I stood at the edge of our hill above Friars Road and looked down on the front runners of thirty-plus thousand participants in the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon, Half marathon, and 2 Person Half Marathon Relay. Wow! Those people are doing all this to raise money to support research and other programs that exist under the umbrella of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
