I went down to the Embarcadero today to see if I could catch a glimpse of Diego the yearling gray whale that has become the sensation of San Diego Bay. The wayward youngster was first spotted in the Bay on March 10, and has been seen regularly since then around the Star of India. Alas, he didn’t show today while I was there, so I settled once again for the spectacular view of my city behind a scattering of anchored sailboats in the Laurel Street anchorage area. I never get tired of this place.
