POEMS, LIKE ALL THINGS BEAUTIFUL, NEED NO EXPLANATION
HOW TO WEAR A POEM
It is best to wear a poem the way
My Grandmother wore gloves on Sunday
Pulled on slowly with reverence left hand first
with palm up then turned down
fingers stretching to the tips of leather
with some help from the other hand
tucking and pushing between the fingers
before repeating the operation on the other hand
and all this without really looking
until both can be held up just slightly and briefly
for admiration before settling into the business
of getting to church on time.
