Some of my favorite images today were the trees around Clava Cairn, a burial ground that is between three and four thousand years old. The bulleting here says: The Battle of Culloden was fought on this moor on the 16th of April, 1746. The killing field is a burial ground for the gallant highlanders who fought for Scotland and Prince Charlie... As I understand it, this little house was standing here (many changings of the roof straw ago...)when Bonnie Prince George and the Highlanders went at each other in the same senseless kind of slaughter that we had in America at Gettysburg. The very sad part of the story is that we never seem to learn that nothing is gained for anybody and indescribable loss is inflicted on everybody by these conflicts. Our group is getting ready here to go out and explore Inverness. The names are like music. We passed Cawdor Castle on the way here.

From the castle walls in Inverness, an old city spreads out along the River Ness. Downstream is Loch Ness. Of course, we'll look for the monster. More on that later.
