WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10SPILLED BLUE... Mission Valley Parking Lot

"Grandeur Undercover" was written by the same Clyde Yoshida who did the dragonfly painting I bought today. Clyde sent me the poem a couple of months ago. My street art photograph and Clyde's poem and his painting all came together in my thinking today. Clyde's poem explains everything. I couldn't figure a way to present the poem with Clyde's exact spacing... but the powerful meaning is the same. Anybody who would like to see more of Clyde's paintings can reach him at cyoshida@sandi.net

GRANDEUR UNDERCOVER
By Clyde Yoshida

The world beneath our eyes
The small, the hidden, the unnoticed
Wiggling or fluttering into our consciousness,
Existing in worlds as grand as canyons and spacious vistas
Backyards, gutters,
Between the cracks and behind the shutters
Weeds projecting like royal sequoias
Immense designs embrace me in oxygen expanses
Enhancing consciousness in strobe light jitterbug splashes

Heart and soul flooded by the tide and inevitable gaudy simple
wash,
The visible, the sounds and feel and undefined sensory tastes of
Expanse's purple perfume

Meditatiing mind, this existence so undefined
Refutes claustrophobic halls and welcomes
Life with room to breathe.

Great to read your blog today, Jerrel but sad to hear of your Canadian friend's loss of a son. How does a father and mother recoup after such a loss? Then there is Clyde Yoshid'a lovely art, and your pictures of various roadways around our condominiums. At first I didn't think such an effort substantial versus your regular flow of excellent photography. but you explained it so well that these everyday splotches of paint, and disfigured sections of highway are reflections of our lives, of the ordinary warp and woof of our existence. Yes, better to be everyday, simple, and loving than grand, esoteric, and aloof. Thanks, friend.
