Today I listened as members of Congress talked about why they want to eliminate the Affordable Health Care program.A reporter asked a senator who helped design the new health care proposal of Congress, “Are you bothered at all by the morality of the proposal?” The question followed a reminder that the replacement “idea” for the Affordable Care Act would leave millions of people, the poorest people in America, who have enjoyed health care under the Affordable Care Act, without health care. As I watched television news reports today which covered the issue of health care in America, I decided to check the Internet to see if I could learn how many children in my own country live in homes that don’t have enough food to feed the people who live there. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture more than 13 million children under the age of 18 live in American households where they are unable to consistently get enough to eat.
Seen from the restaurant where where Margaret and I ate dinner tonight with our friend Charles Hoschwitz, San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. People live and work in splendor. But behind the glitter and glitz of this beautiful people there are homeless people, including families with children.
