Connectedness of things: Any new place to any person who is trying to make sense of it, is territory that passes from strangeness to familiarity as the individual begins to see and understand how the pieces of the place are connected to each other.

The way people are connected to each other is important to understand.  Who is the leader, the boss, the head honcho?  How are all the other people related to the leader?  How much power does the leader have to determine how individuals should deport themselves and how they occupy the space assigned to them?

Assigned spaces are important and unassigned spaces that belong to everyone are especially significant and important.  Knowing how to go from one place to another… what the routes are between spaces… is an important understanding of any new territory.

A cluster of buildings on a hill may seem remote and obscure until the way through them is understood.  Where I live there is such a collection of buildings, and the connections between them is called “The Sky Bridge.”   The Sky Bridge can be confusing if it is seen only from the inside.
