WRITING WITH LIGHT IN THE CITY OF LIGHT
Photography is writing with light. “Photography,” from the Greek φῶς (phōs) “light” and γραφή (graphé) which is “writing or drawing” to give us a perfect description of what a camera does… It “draws” or “writes” with light.
Before sailing into the heart of Paris on the River Seine, we spent the afternoon in Conflans-Saint-Honorine… giving us a closer look at what it might be like to live close to the city of light but not in it. When we climbed winding steps up to a medieval church, now being renovated, Margaret was greeted by a beautiful gray cat that seemed to know she was coming. To be acknowledged by a beautiful animal as Margaret was recognized by the beautiful cat is a rare and wonderful thing. The cat walked up to her, looked up as if to say, “I’ve been waiting for you,” walked around her and rubbed itself against her legs as only cats can do, and then promptly lay down in front of her and stretched out waiting to be petted. Wonderful! It followed us up a flight of steps before turning into an alley. Job done.
About the only thing left of the Roman period in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is a big block of a building not far from the waterfront…
Our boat got to the center of Paris in the middle of the night... just before midnight. A few hardy waited until the Eiffel Tower came into sight before going to bed. I was among them. I came directly to my computer to download the midnight pictures and post them.
