Rather than risk too sudden withdrawal by coming cold turkey off the need to photograph classical buildings, I headed my bicycle up the hill to the University of San Diego a couple of miles from where I live. It may not be a thousand years old, but the architecture there is stunning nonetheless.
Back down the hill at home as I went into the garage to put up my bicycle, I almost stepped on long lizard that looked enough like a snake to cause something primitive in me to jump back. The lizard was clearly not afraid of me. It stayed in place long enough for me to get close for pictures.
I am alive. Life is good.
