I Killed a Black Widow Spider

Out by the mailboxes where I live
I killed a black widow spider today.
It hid in a crevice of a ficus tree
in a place where children play;
so what else could I possibly do
to make the area safe for them?
That’s my story... and as they say,
I’m sticking with it. But I’m sad,
actually, very sad...not celebrating.
