Click on the images to see them slightly enlarged. Two days ago there were five very plain, you might say homely, stalks reaching up from a cluster of small barrel cacti on Colleen’s back patio. This morning the stems were there but forgotten because each was topped and overshadowed by an outrageous blossom. Small black wasps had discovered them before I did. By mid afternoon they were almost closed. Now at dusk they are tightly shut. I’ll see if they open again tomorrow.
