A MUST READ TODAY IN THE L.A. TIMES... begin on page A2

I mentioned the Sand Creek Massacre (1864 in Colorado) a couple of days ago in this BLOG.  Today the L.A. Times tells more of the story than I recounted in my earlier writing, including some information about the participants, one man who refused to let the men under his command participate, and some of the descendants of Arrapaho and Cheyenne victims of the massacre still living in the U.S.  It is just one of many reminders that our nation has a history of racism that must be addressed and washed out where it still exists in our population. If part of the letter of the man who refused to participate gets your attention, go on-line and read the rest of the story.

Captain Silas Soule

"I tell you Ned it was hard to see little children on their knees have their brains beat out by men professing to be civilized," wrote Capt. Silas Soule to Maj. Edward Wynkoop. "You would think it impossible for white men to butcher and mutilate human beings as they did there but every word I have told you is the truth which they do not deny."
