THEOLOGY
“What’s the plan?”
they all wanted to know
and thought I could say...
Believing they had begun
a theological discussion,
I said again,
“It can’t have happened,
all this beauty,
with no thought or plan...”
Then someone said
“Shit happens...
What about that...
Is that accidental?
Swell the music...
Bring up the lights.
And then I said the only thing
I know to think and say
about eternal truth...
“When I go looking for beauty
I find some right away.”
“What’s the plan?”
they all wanted to know
and thought I could say...
Believing they had begun
a theological discussion,
I said again,
“It can’t have happened,
all this beauty,
with no thought or plan...”
Then someone said
“Shit happens...
What about that...
Is that accidental?
Swell the music...
Bring up the lights.
And then I said the only thing
I know to think and say
about eternal truth...
“When I go looking for beauty
I find some right away.”

And you found it once again, and posted it here. Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteYour theology makes me think of Annie Dillard's observation: "Beauty and grace are performed, whether or not we will or sense them. The least we can do is try to be there."

Yes! It's all in the choice in the moment, in the seeing, the experiencing.
ReplyDeleteAs your photo and your writing are beautiful.
Many years ago, before even high school, I read a poem in a Reader's Digest
at my Grandma's house. Near as I can remember it went like this:
"Two men were in prison,
looking through the bars.
One looked down,
And saw only the mud.
The other looked up,
and saw the stars."

I hope all is well with you, my friend. - David
hank you. I've been thinking some black thoughts about what may be in store for our planet. These beautiful surreal pictures today have helped make me remember the "other side."

Harry and I are undecided what flower this is. I thought it might be a calla lilly, but he thinks an antherium. I'd never seen a yellow/purple, only red and white antherium. What is it?
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!
