I’ve never been inside ONE OF MY FAVORITE BUILDINGS IN SAN DIEGO. It’s a part of the San Diego Unified School District Central Office complex.  I don’t know how the building is used these days.  I suspect it’s a warehouse. The Education Annex reminds me of the colonial buildings planted by Europeans in Asia, especially in places like Singapore.  I went this morning to a park near the building to help my friend Clyde Yoshida set up his VIBRANT SOAP display. A street market springs up early every Saturday morning at the intersection of Park Boulevard and El Cajon Boulevards. The mural nearby of an abstract train with wheels and steam and an eye and a cow-catcher is one of my favorite outdoor works of art in San Diego.  It’s a reminder that an important trolley line once ran along the street from downtown to Adams Avenue. Go see the mural sometime when you have plenty of time to take a long look at the whole all at once and then let your eyes go slowly over all the details.

Anybody interested in “experiencing art” should also check out Clyde’s Vibrant Soaps.  He is an artist  who makes soap; and each bar of soap is a work of art.  Take a look at his WEB site, and you’ll see what I mean.  There is something intriguing about owning a work of art that you use, and in the using you make it disappear… and right down to the very last sliver of it, the soap is a thing of beauty.  http://vibrantsoap.com

The orchid Ed brought to Margaret today to begin the celebration of her 80th birthday is a natural work of art… like her, something of incomparable beauty.
