AMERICAN HEARTLAND...

In the middle of last night our train passed through Newton, Kansas, a few miles from where Irene Fudge grew up and where my nephew Chris Buford lives with his little family... It seemed strange knowing that she and Jim are there now visiting her family and that my Nephew Chris and Janell and Amy live there... passing so close to our closest neighbors in San Diego and people in our family whom we love... and with the more than six billion people on earth all having to be somewhere all the time, it seemed a great coincidence that sitting near enough to a man (who now lives in Michigan and is as concerned as I am about the billionaire Koch brothers’ powerful influence in American politics) in the observation car for a conversation, we went from talking about digital photography to video editing to San Diego; and I learned that he knows our friends Carol and Don Green... and that’s not all: The people across from us in the dining car at lunch today know Tina, whom we met in Greece a couple of weeks ago. The world isn’t too big to manage after all.
