LIFE

It scurried across the bike path,
a beetle with hard black shell...

I didn’t know this squiggly creature.
We hadn’t met before today
and our encounter was brief...
won’t ever happen again.

It narrowly missed being swished
because I had enough time
to lean just a fraction to the right...
godlike, imperial, and grant it reprieve...

Somewhere out there in the weeds
perhaps under a rock or piece of bark
The bug lives tonight unaware of me.

If you look closely at this picture, you'll see a new plant, a pup, snuggledand just barely visible behind the "mother" agave. This plant lives to flower once. After the stalk blooms, the plant will die. But life goes on. The little pup will grow and replace the one that blooming this summer.

LIFE (replies with humor, playfully)

It scurried across the bike path,
a beetle with hard black shell...

I didn’t know this squiggly creature (that you remember).
We hadn’t met before today (wanna bet?)
and our encounter was brief (was it now?)
and won’t ever happen again (don't be so sure!).

It narrowly missed being swished (a miss is good as a mile!)
because I had enough time (you had all the time then/now)
to lean just a fraction to the right... (looking in front/future of or behind/past you?)
godlike, imperial, and grant it reprieve... (or did it or the being above you, relatively speaking, grant you a reprieve from what you might have felt?)

Somewhere out there in the weeds (or here, depending on who and where and when you are)
perhaps under a rock or piece of bark (you talking about the bug now or you, relatively speaking?)
The bug lives tonight unaware of me (maybe the bug is more aware, or you are more significant, than you think!)

How lucky for the beetle to have crossed paths with a compassionate rider. Beautiful photos as always
