I don't have to go out looking for BARK photographs. They find me. Riding or walking around San Diego, I see them waiting in every park, beside every road, and standing sentinel in yards all over the city. My friend Ben Christensen said it well: "Metaphorically, "bark" is used (in the BARK PROJECT) to signify the humane protection of victimized people, just as the bark of a tree protects the tree, itself. In another sense, "bark" is used as a "shout out" to say that there are people who are concerned about the bullying situation and are willing to "bark" about it, much like a barking dog warns intruders that they are stepping over the line."

We'll be launching the BARK PROJECT on the WEB sometime soon. The readers of this BLOG will be the first to know. This young silk floss tree and its companion trees between the two buildings of Casa del Prado in Balboa Park seem to keep watch over a small courtyard. This one has eyes...thorns at its base for additional protection. This hairy palm stands with three others over near the House of Botany.
