We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.A more perfect union would surely be one which guarantees health care as a basic right for all citizens. The woman in this photograph is explaining how her family is five months behind in mortgage payments because catastrophic illness beyond the family's control has flattened the family financially and made it impossible for them to avoid forclosure. How can we claim to be a nation that values equity and justice when we promote and support a system which withholds basic health care from any of our citizens?

How can there be domestic tranquility in households where sick children or sick adults must suffer their illnesses because there is simply not enough money to buy appropriate health care?

Obviously common defense is at the top of our list of priorities... Promote general welfare... How has a simple concept, a plain word with a clear definition, become anathema to so many Americans? What are the blessings of liberty? Are the multi-million dollar salaries of insurance company executives among the blessings of liberty? Where is the blessing for the lower or middle income family losing a home to bankruptcy because medical care has created unmanageable debt.
