Wurzburg is a town familiar to many American veterans who were stationed in Germany after the big war. Marienberg Castle on it's hill above the river is an impressively large landmark, but the smaller chapel on an opposite hill blends beautifully into the autumn landscape. The city of 129,000 was almost completely wiped out in a 20-minute Allied bombing raid near the end of the war. More than 4000 inhabitants were killed in the raid.I sat in the back of the bus on the way from the Danube-Main canal to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Rothenburg is said to be the best preserved medieval town in Germany, perhaps in all of Europe. I especially enjoyed taking the "road" pictures through the back window of the bus.
