CASTLES AND CHURCHES ALONG THE RHINE

Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet in Rudesheim is a collection of music "boxes" that vary in size from tiny mechanisms that play a simple tune to huge, room-sized cabinets that can sound like a fifteen piece orchestra. This delicate sculpture on one of the cabinets is as beautiful as the music the cabinet plays. The little town of Rudesheim with a population of just ten thousand is located at the southern end of the Rhine Gorge. Doug Bolton and I walked up to the "Niederwald Denkmal," a colossal monument with Europa overlooking the Rudesheim vineyards and the river.John Rusch took the picture of Tom Wagner and me... after I had taken his picture and edited it on my laptop. We found more to do than take pictures of castles along the Rhine.
